South African born Chef, Shane Vermaak, has always had a strong passion for all things food. He believes in simple food, done good and celebrating natural flavours on a plate. 
He studied at the popular HTA School for Culinary Arts in Johannesburg and has had the opportunity to develop his skills in an array of kitchens, from commercial catering to fine dining restaurants where he rubbed shoulders with great mentors of the industry. His career took him through America and some of the best kitchens in South Africa, before landing in Albany, Western Australia, where he is now the Head Chef at the popular Majuba Bistro. Before relocating to Australia, he was Sous Chef at the renowned Saxon Hotel Villas and Spa in Johannesburg, South Africa, where they were awarded numerous awards for culinary innovation and expertise and his vegan menus soared to new heights in the culinary arena. 
Being a Chef however is not just about food. For Shane, it is about the amazing people on the journey, acquiring and teaching new skills, exploring new horizons and venturing into creative freedom. The culinary world truly provides him with a platform to grow, teach and enrich not just his own world, but also those who gather around a plate created by him.
