Benita believes that regional WA holds the community values, strength, bravery and determination that she wants to be part of. She fulfilled a lifelong ambition to return to regional life in WA when she moved to the Great Southern from East Timor in December 2017.
In Albany she has been involved with the Board of the Albany Community Hospice and on the board of the Albany and Regional Volunteer Service, Benita led the establishment of the Albany Step Up Step Down mental health facility and is currently the CEO at the Albany Chamber of Commerce. She is supported by a visionary Board and fantastic Chamber team to deliver on its 5-year strategy. All about building productive connections, the business community, and it’s voice in the region.
Those who know Benita will be aware that she has had a career of more than 25 years in leadership positions including community organisations, private sector, State and Federal Governments and overseas volunteering. Coming from a migrant family whose roots are in Italy, Portugal and France, Benita has three adult children, 1 grandchild, and a family that includes 11 siblings. She and her partner are part of a growing company that works across 5 countries. Damian and his son have an extended family that include his own 8 siblings.
Benita will tell you this large family has been a strong foundation for her. She says they are the reason she values community in the economy, diverse networks, empathy in relationships and bravery in overcoming challenges.
