Western Australia boasts some great winemakers which is backed up the fact that we produce 5% by volume of the Australian market but 12% of its value! The WA wine industry relies heavily on local market sales with 48% of the total value generated within the state. Direct sales representing 21% of the total sales, are the most profitable channel to market. Exhibitions and events (and UnWined Subiaco) are part of this important medium.
We are now entering the award season for wines which is very important for the winemakers and also people purchasing the wine. The accolades and gongs play a big role in the recognition of those behind the brands and also provide guidance to wine lovers as they look to grow their cellars and enjoy our premium produce.
The recent release of the James Halliday Wine Companion 2017 results has provided good results for some of our wineries. For example, Margaret River’s Arlewood was named the Dark Horse Winery of the Year for Australia and those wineries receiving 94 points and above for their quality wines included The Lake House Denmark and Talisman Wines – just to start with!
Coming up in the next few weeks will see even more winners announced with the Geographe Wine Show, Perth Royal Wine Show, Swan Valley Wine Show and the Wine Show of Western Australia all seeking to discover the successes of recent vintages.
We hope to make some announcements over the next few weeks, and we recommend you talk to the exhibitors at UnWined, they not only enjoy making quality wine, they love talking about it too! It is a great opportunity to discover and purchase your new season wines.
