The Geographe wine region and Tempranillo seem to be a good mix! There are some great wines coming out of the region which was highlighted by the best wine of the 2014 Geographe Wine Show being the 2013 Bakkheia Aequitas Reserva. A 100% Tempranillo aged for 15 months on old French oak. If you can, get your hands on a couple of bottles.
Tempanillo is a Spanish grape and derives its name from “early” because it ripens a little sooner in the season than other red grapes. Geographe with its higher latitude in WA lends itself well to the Spanish conditions.
If you would like to learn more and discover the diversity, depth and joy of Tempranillo, Geographe Wine will be hosting the inaugural Tempranillo Masterclass with Australia’s leading expert on alternative varieties – Jane Faulkner.
It will be held from 3.00- 4.30pm at Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre on Thursday 24th September.
The world’s leading Tempranillo’s will be tasted alongside those of Geographe and Australia
